What is Taijiquan?

Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is an ancient Chinese martial and movement art. It serves the care of life, health, the holistic development of body and mind as well as selfdefense. It is meditative and strengthens the body, promotes the development of inner energy (Qi) and as such can be used therapeutically as well as in combat. The movements are gentle and flowing, full of expression, beauty and energy. Taiji describes people as a connection (link) between heaven and earth and gives them their meaning (Dao).

Taijiquan exceeds far beyond normal fitness programs and can be followed through its essential philosophy as a way of life, but also as a hobby. Its health value is recognized worldwide, health insurances partially cover the tuition fees.
Since internal energy is used instead of muscle power, Taijiquan can be practiced successfully by young and old, man and woman, young and old alike.

As a martial art, it follows the transmissions of traditional exercises, which just today can be used in all situations. Probably it is the most widespread Gongfu (KungFu) style in the world. This system, which originated in the Chen family centuries ago, makes use of the philosophy of Yin and Yang, their phases of change and the harmonization of body, mind and soul. It combines movements of self-defense (Wushu) with the guidance of internal energy (Qigong) and is therefore considered an internal martial art.
