To mark the International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems, our teenagers took part in an environmental education activity in the Ponta de Areia mangrove forest in Itaparica (BA).
During the activity, we explored the area, observed the flora and fauna, recorded the biodiversity, identified environmental impacts, and collected and sorted the waste we found. More than just a clean-up initiative, it was an opportunity for learning, investigation and the collective building of knowledge.
The participants also carried out a Participatory Environmental Assessment, contributing to the monitoring of the mangrove forest and strengthening young people’s active role in protecting the environment.
We believe that environmental education changes perspectives, fosters a sense of belonging and inspires actions that help preserve our natural heritage for future generations.
We would like to thank our environmental educator Elineide Pereira da Silva, volunteers Valesca and Valente, and the social media team at the Associação Ilha das Crianças for making this experience possible.
